On April 20, 2024, St. Lawrence University and the SLU Chemistry department hosted the 14th Annual Undergraduate and Graduate Chemistry Research Symposium for the Northern New York Section of the American Chemical Society. This Week in Athletics!
Men’s lacrosse qualified for the NCAA tournament via an at-large bid after completing their season as Liberty League semifinalists. The Saints had their best start in program history at 11-0 and finished the season 14-2 with a share of the regular season title with a 6-1 league record. They will make their way back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2022 and the third time since 2017, and are headed to Wesleyan to face Plymouth State on Saturday.
For men’s lacrosse major awards, Judge Murphy '24 was named the Liberty League Offensive Player of the Year, while Daniel Mahoney '27 was named the Rookie of the Year. 7 Saints earned All-League accolades and head coach Mike Mahoney '93 earned Coach of the Year honors.
Women’s lacrosse defender Haley Sundstrom '25 earned Second-Team All-Liberty League honors, while midfielder Neve Ley '25 earned Honorable Mention accolades for the women's lacrosse team, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.
After earning their 14th straight Intercollegic Horse Shows Competition (IHSA) Regional title, the riding team advanced to nationals as a team this past week, finishing fourth overall. After earning Reserve Champion honors at Zones, the Saints competed against the 16 best programs, representing the 353 competing schools.
In the men’s outdoor track and field season, Zach Jaworski '25, Nick Lyndaker '26 and Patrick Russell '26 had all-conference performances at the outdoor track and field championships this past weekend. St. Lawrence finished fifth overall. The Saints now head to regionals with many athletes qualified.
Women’s track and field saw Emma Palumbo '25 and Alli Sibold '24 earn all-Liberty League honors at the outdoor track and field championship, with Alli getting an honorable mention in the 1500 meter race and Emma taking second-team honors in the 3000 meter steeplechase. The Saints will also head to regionals beginning next week.

Physics Students Discuss Their Microwave Projects
Students in Dr. Munir Pirbhai's Phys 221L "Modern Physics Lab" course presented their microwave projects to the Physics department faculty at our annual Microwave Symposium.
St. Lawrence Students Contribute to U.S. Foreign Policy through Diplomacy Lab
This fall, six students partnered with senior leadership of the Europe and Eurasian Affairs program at the Foreign Service Institute of the U.S. State Department. Under the guidance of Dr. Mert Kartal, political science students investigated the impact of immigration on the rise of far-right populism in European Union member countries.
Taming Trash: Students Learn About Waste Management
This semester, students in the Taming Trash course, taught by Dr. Lori Clark explored waste management through hands-on experiences. The class visited the St. Lawrence compost site, the Cornell Cooperative Extension Anaerobic Digester, and the Development Authority of the North Country Materials Management Facility.Athletics
Saints Earn All-Region Accolades
- Football: Senior captain and tight-end Oskar Baldwin earned Division 3, Third-Team All-Region honors for Region II. Baldwin, who also earned First-Team All-Liberty League accolades, played in all nine games for the Saints this season and led the team in receptions with 40 catches for 491 yards, averaging 47.89 yards per game.
- Men’s Soccer: Seniors George Charalambous and Max Mogul, along with sophomore Henry Brown, earned All-Region III Second Team honors for their play this season. Brown, who was named the Liberty League Player of the Year, and earned First Team All-League, emerged as the league's top player this season.
- Women’s Soccer: Senior captain defender Mia Cence earned All-Region III Third Team honors for her play this season. Cence is the first Saint to be named All-Region since Julia Mulhern '20 and Hannah Arment '20, who earned First Team nods in 2019. Cence, who was a Second Team All-Liberty League selection, played in 15 games this past season and started in 14 of them. The defender was a difference maker on the backline helping the team to a 1.18 team goals against average and five clean sheets.
