Saints Secure Wins, Earn Liberty League Honors

Men’s Soccer: The men's soccer team earned its first win of the season with a 2-0 derby victory over SUNY Canton. Junior Dennis Argueta and first-year Sammy Bothwell scored, while first-year goalie Zach Amato secured the shutout.

Women’s Soccer: The women's soccer team rallied with two second-half goals to defeat Oswego State 2-1 on the road. The win improved their season record to 2-1-2.

Men’s Cross-Country: Seniors Nick Lyndaker, Patrick Russell, and Griffin Roeder swept the top three spots at the Hamilton Short Course, leading the men's cross-country team to its second straight win of the season. Lyndaker was just four second shy of his personal best in the 5k, and won Liberty League Runner of the Week honors.

Men’s Tennis: First-year Josh David made a strong debut at the SLU Fall Classic, reaching the A singles semifinals and earning Liberty League Rookie of the Week. He also teamed up with his brother and junior Jake David in doubles, winning their first match.

Football: Senior Ryan Surhoff led the football team’s defense in a close loss to St. John Fisher, recording five tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, an interception, and a quarterback hurry. He was named Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week.

Women’s Tennis: Senior Maya Stepic and sophomore Kate Butler won the B doubles consolation final at the Mary Hosking Invitational. In A doubles, seniors Angelica Aksdal-Jansen and Molly Jespersen reached the final but fell 6-3.

Women’s Golf: Sophomore Sadie Cumming won the individual title and led the women's golf team to a first-place finish at the SUNY Poly Invitational. She shot four birdies and finished with a 74, one over par.

Women’s Cross-Country: Junior Charlotte Blake finished second overall at the Hamilton Short Course Invitational, helping the women's cross-country team to a third-place finish in the four-kilometer race. First-year Madison Beaudoin finished 24^th for the Saints and corralled Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors.

Weekend Wins for the Saints

The Scarlet and Brown topped the competition as Saints women's soccer shut out Bard 4-0 on the road and men's soccer defeated Bard 3-2 at home on Friday. Saints XC Qualify for NCAA Championships, Scarlet and Brown Dominate Weekend Matchups

Following stellar seasons, Saints Women's Cross Country earned an at-large bid to the 2022 NCAA DIII Championships and Timothy Boyce '25 and Nick Lyndaker '26 will compete as individuals in the men's championships in Lansing, Michigan on November 19. Saints Swimming and Diving dominated the competition on the road this weekend as the women's team secured a 193-66 victory over Oswego and a 192-74 win over William Smith while the men's team defeated Hobart 126-33. The wins continued with Football topping Buffalo 31-7 and women's basketball defeating Husson 73-63. After defeating Roger Williams 5-4 on a penalty kick and advancing to the second round of the NCAA tournament Saint men's soccer concluded its fall season against Amherst on Sunday. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

Stress Less Week

Last week Wellness Education sponsored the second annual Stress-Less Week, an initiative started by Active Minds, one of the leading nonprofits dedicated to promoting mental health among young adults. The campus-wide, week-long event included stress management tips, resources, and support through mindful programming: fireside chats with a counselor; managing academic stress with the Academic Advising team; Wellness Zones chair massages with a licensed massage therapist, crafting custom self-care kits; and of course, closing the week with Pet De-Stress. View photos from Stress-Less Week on the St. Lawrence Instagram account. 

St. Lawrence University President Kate Morris, Vice President of the University and Dean of Academic Affairs Karl Schonberg and Vice President and Dean of Student Life Hagi Bradley sent several messages to the community that announced the Campus Operating Status is orange (higher risk) as of Friday, Sept. 3, and provided updates to campus policies and protocols. 20 Years After 9/11: Faculty, Staff, Alumni Event Series Continues
"20 Year-Anniversary in the Global Community," a CIIS World Topic Series, will take place Wednesday, Sept. 8, via Zoom, a Faculty Cafe featuring Professor of Global Studies John Collins' new book, "Globalizing Collateral Language: From 9/11 to Endless War," is happening Friday, Sept. 10, and a Chapel Service on Saturday, Sept. 11. Check out the event details. 

Several teams kicked off their respective seasons this weekend. The men's and women's golf teams hit the links at the St. Lawrence Invitational on the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course while Women's Tennis opened their 2021-22 season at the Mary Hosking Invitational hosted by William Smith. On Saturday, the men's and women's cross country teams emerged victorious in their meets against SUNY Plattsburgh, while Field Hockey defeated SUNY Oneonta, 5- 1. Saints Skate to Victory; Seasons Continue

The Scarlet and Brown dominated the competition on Friday as men's hockey defeated Princeton 6-2 in Appleton Arena and women's hockey secured a 7-3 win over Dartmouth on the road. The weekend wins for the Saints continued with men's basketball securing a 69-65 overtime win over Ithaca on Saturday after defeating RPI 56-53 on Friday while men's squash beat MIT 5-4. Men's tennis defeated Daemen University 7-2 at home as the Saints men's track and field DMR team took first place at the Fastrack Invitational. It all started four years ago in First-Year Program, where our soon-to-be graduates first came together as Saints. On Monday, members of the Class of 2025 were reunited with their FYPs to celebrate how far they’ve come since August 2021. From the FYP to the finish line, we’ve loved following their journey. Saints Shine in NCAA Tournament

• Men’s Lacrosse: The Saints recorded their second NCAA tournament victory in as many years on Saturday as they took down Middlebury in the second round of the national championship tournament. Senior Bobby Wells recorded a hat trick, including the game-winner with 48 seconds remaining. Despite a hard-fought game, St. Lawrence fell in the third round to No. 1 Tufts.
