Saints Basketball Dominates Home Court Matchups; Seasons Continue

It was a winning weekend for the Saints! Women's basketball secured a 68-57 win over RIT on Saturday after defeating William Smith 82-59 on Friday and dominating Clarkson 74-47 at home last week while Saints men's basketball beat RIT 88-71 on Saturday after securing a 73-67 win over Hobart on Friday.  The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with men's hockey shutting out Brown 6-0 on the road while women's hockey skated to a 3-2 overtime win over Cornell at home. Saints squash wrapped up its 2023 Liberty League Championships on home court this weekend after the women's team secured three sets of 8-0 wins over Vassar, Bard, and Denison before falling to William Smith in the championship match on Sunday while the men's team topped Bard 8-1 and Hobart 5-4  before falling to Rochester on Sunday. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

Celebrating Lunar New Year

The International House (I-House) and Asian Students Intercultural Association (A.S.I.A) celebrated Lunar New Year with a teatime spent sharing dumplings and laughs, crafting origami rabbits, and enjoying music with friends to ring in a prosperous year ahead. Saints Hit a Winning Streak and Secure First Place Victories

Field Hockey—Junior Caroline Hamilton scored two goals, including a dramatic go-ahead goal in the dying seconds of the game, and senior Cara Vredenburg made 16 saves as field hockey earned a conference victory in the Liberty League opener, 2-1 over Skidmore. The win is St. Lawrence’s third straight victory.

Men’s Rowing—The 2024-25 fall portion of the schedule opened at the Mohawk Fall Classic Regatta in Scotia, N.Y. on Sunday. With five boats in the men's 2V race, St. Lawrence's 'B' boat with first-year Luke Rucolas and senior Sam Sternhagen placed first with a time of 15:00.62.

Women’s Rowing—The 2024-25 fall portion of the schedule opened at the Mohawk Fall Classic Regatta in Scotia, N.Y. on Sunday. The Saints 'A' Varsity 8 rowed to a first-place finish, recording a time of 15:29. 67.

Women’s Hockey—Three different Saints scored, including a first-career goal for first-year Alexia Côté, as eighth-ranked women's hockey opened the 2024-25 season with a 3-0 win over Merrimack in a Friday morning game at Lawler Rink. St. Lawrence moved to 1-0-0 on the season, while Merrimack fell to 0-1-0. Côté took ECAC Hockey Bitcoin Rookie of the Week honors for the performance. 

Men’s Tennis—Senior Edvin Strandberg was the lone Saint to represent men’s tennis at the ITA Northeast Regionals on the campus of Drew University, and advanced to the Round of 16 yesterday with a pair of wins. This morning, Strandberg went to a tiebreak in the opening game losing 6-7 (3) and fell 0-6 in the final game to end his run. The team will be back in action in February.

Math and Everything at St. Lawrence

Last Friday’s Math and Everything event brought together 250 young women from North Country high schools, along with students, faculty, and alumni, for a day of learning and exploration. From career panels to interactive sessions on AI, neuroscience, and more, there was so much to explore. Saints Net Highlight-Reel Performances 

Volleyball: The Saints won six of seven sets Saturday at the SUNY Potsdam Triad, earning wins over the Bears and Oswego State. They’re now 12-7 heading into a crucial conference weekend.

Women’s Hockey: The Saints took Vermont to a shootout Friday after a 1-1 tie, highlighted by junior Abby Hehl’s viral between-the-legs goal that ranked No. 2 on SportsCenter’s Top 10. SLU sits No. 14 nationally after a 0-1-1 weekend vs. the Catamounts.

Men’s Rowing: The Novice 8 led the Saints at the Head of the Genesee in Rochester, finishing second in 18:37.505 to top RIT (21:59.323).

Men’s Hockey: Seniors Tyler Cristall, Isack Bandu, and Frankie Carogioiello scored to give SLU a 3-2 lead, and junior Gunnar Thoreson added two empty-netters in a 5-2 home-opening win over Vermont. Junior Mason Kucenski made 59 saves on the weekend and earned MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Week honors.

Women’s Tennis: Seniors Angelica Aksdal-Jansen and Molly Jespersen swept the top singles and doubles flights at the Hamilton Invitational. Aksdal-Jansen defeated William Smith’s Haley Levine 6-0, 6-2 and teamed with Jespersen for a 6-1 doubles win. The senior also notched her 100th career victory on day one.

A Peek at Peak Weekend 🌄

For 43 years, Peak Weekend has been one of St. Lawrence’s most unique and meaningful traditions, connecting students with the Adirondacks and with each other. This past weekend, students hiked across the High Peaks region, and together, they summited all 46 Adirondack High Peaks. More than just a weekend outdoors, Peak Weekend represents a deep sense of community, shared challenge, and a longstanding tradition rooted in adventure and place. On October 9, President Morris informed the Laurentian community about the passing of Ronald Waske '69, a beloved alumnus and longtime Head Athletic Trainer at St. Lawrence University. During his time here, Ron cared for and mentored generations of student-athletes, and shaped countless careers and lives.
