Show Description:
In a dystopian city reminiscent of Gotham, a crippling water shortage brought on by a 20-year drought has forced the government to ban private toilets. Citizens are now required to use public amenities, all of which are controlled by a ruthless corporation that exploits the population by charging for this most basic human need. Amidst the despair, a determined hero rises, vowing to lead a revolution and liberate the people from this oppressive regime.
Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, Urinetown is a sharp-witted satire that spares no one from its biting critique. Hailed for redefining the boundaries of musical theatre, Urinetown propels the is dark but comedic romp full of musical theatre easter eggs.
URINETOWN was produced on Broadway in September, 2001 by the Araca Group and Dodger Theatricals in association with TheaterDreams, Inc., and Lauren Mitchell
URINETOWN is presented in special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
All authorized show performance materials are also supplied by MTI.
