SLU Writers Series Presents: Franny Choi

- Sykes Common Room
Speaker

Poet Franny Choi debuted in 2014 with Floating, Brilliant, Gone, from Write Bloody Publishing. Ploughshares called the collection “[f]unny, heartbreaking, and unpretentiously intelligent.” It was followed by Death by Sex Machine, published by Sibling Rivalry Press in 2017. “As in the uncanny valley, where we are spooked by machines being a bit too human,” observed the poet francine j. harris, “this tightly controlled chapbook probes the uncomfortable terrain of the familiar but not quite safe.”

In 2019, Alice James Books published Soft Science, a finalist for several awards, including the Lambda Literary Awards and The Believer Book Awards. Her latest collection, The World Keeps Ending, and the World Goes On, was published by Ecco in 2022. Ecco will also bring out her forthcoming essay collection on race, feminism, and robots. Her work has been recognized with a Kundiman fellowship, a Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowship, and the Theodore H. Holmes ’51 and Bernice Holmes National Poetry Prize, awarded by the Lewis Center for the Arts’ Program in Creative Writing at Princeton University. She is currently Faculty in Literature at Bennington College.
