Goodwin Article - Goodwin, S.W. (2011). Fearful symmetries: Rubrics and assessment. In D. Heiland & L. J. Rosenthal (Eds.), Literary study, measurement, and the sublime: Disciplinary Assessment (pp. 133–151). New York: The Teagle Foundation. This was an assigned reading for the Teagle Scholar Writing Assessment Workshop held with Departments in June 2012. Goodwin demonstrates the potential of rubrics as a liberating force in assessing—and even making space for—ambitious and original student work, in an essay that considers texts ranging from the poetry of William Blake to the multimedia projects of her students.
