Karen Bedard
Karen Morrissey Bedard ’96 joined the University Communications team in October 2023. In her role as Associate Director of Advancement Marketing and Communications, Karen partners with the University Advancement team to develop creative strategies, key communications, and compelling content in support of a comprehensive philanthropy program.
In collaboration with multiple departments across campus, Karen is responsible for discovering and telling stories that help build lifelong relationships and engage the time, loyalty, and intellectual and financial resources of individuals with a special connection to St. Lawrence University. She serves as a member of the St. Lawrence University Magazine content planning team, assisting with content development, writing, and editing to support University Advancement and University Communications goals and objectives. Karen also provides direct writing support to University Leadership and gift officers in the form of speeches, remarks, and letters for a diverse range of constituent audiences.
After graduating from St. Lawrence, Karen spent 20 years in Boston, turning her English Writing degree into a successful career as an advertising copywriter and creative director. She created award-winning work for brands like Ocean Spray and Royal Caribbean, and she led creative teams at VistaPrint and SharkNinja. In 2016, Karen moved with her husband and two children to her hometown of Skaneateles, NY, where she co-owned a boutique creative marketing firm for several years. In her free time, she coaches youth soccer and serves on the Skaneateles Library Board, helping to lead the capital campaign to build a new library. Karen works remotely from her home in Skaneateles.
