The St. Lawrence University Outdoor Program has an excellent outdoor leadership and education program available to all students. Several courses for credit are offered in outdoor leadership and education, snow science, river dynamics and safety, expeditionary studies, and outdoor recreation ethics. In addition to credit-bearing courses, the Outdoor Program provides many recreational opportunities for students to develop technical outdoor skills in rock climbing, backcountry skiing, whitewater paddling, and mountaineering as well as non-technical skills such backpacking, canoeing and kayak touring. Students who have excelled in the outdoor leadership and education curriculum and who want to work for the Outdoor Program leading trips will have the opportunity to take an additional course in order to acquire the necessary skills.
