Old Business:

  1. Bill collected all ADA push button, elevator and ADA parking locations along with current elevator procedures and is sharing this information with Sharmela – When elevators are out of service point people will be advised; Registrar’s office; Elaine White and Security. Weekly tests of the blue ADA buttons will be conducted by Security staff.

  1. NYS Fire inspections are still in progress.  Final academic building inspections were scheduled for the week of 12/17/2018 and final residence hall inspections will be at some point in January, 2019 after students return from break – Inspections are complete and all violations were addressed in a timely manner.
  2. Suna requested review of the Drone policy at the next meeting. Certified people only can fly drones; all contractors and other professionals requesting drone privileges will need to be vetted. The committee reviewed the updated draft policy; the only question that remains is who will “own” the operation manual and where it should be posted; ie. Security Website, Student Handbook, etc. –Drone Policy Draft has been accepted and we will begin advertising its existence; Security will maintain the Drone Policy and add it to their Webpage and AVP Gagnon will add it to his Campus 101 presentation at Orientation.
  3. Jill brought up Laser Pointer Safety Usage on campus. We discussed specs and laser limits that can cause retina damage without the individual even realizing it. Class 3R pointers are supposed to be 5mW or less in power, but often times dramatically exceed these limits. Suppliers may not test the actual output power of the pointers they are selling. The committee discussed having a campus PSA written explaining the dangers of these lasers. Jill will review with the radiation and laser safety committee what information she feels is necessary to get in the PSA and discuss with them how to handle it. - reviewed the Laser Pointer Safety Usage review sheet which will be sent to the University community via email message and discussed at informal gatherings.

New Business:

  1. The need for residential doorways to be shoveled out in the event of a large snowstorm was emailed to the committee. It was discussed that there is a call-in list and that the Security Dispatcher will contact the Facilities on-call manager to put the plan into motion.

  1. Lack of lighting over by Java and the Block Building across from Eben Holden. Concern of safety for drivers and pedestrians.  Jim and Sharmela will walk the area (s) in question and look at the light readings for this area and make a determination of the next steps.

  1. Item 2 brought up the concern of students crossing Park Street without even looking up; and in many times not in a marked crosswalk. We ask all drivers to please be very aware of pedestrian traffic. Bill will be putting a reminder in the Hill News as well.

  1. The corner of the Bookstore and E-Lot is very slippery due to the grade of the sidewalk and the dripping snow/rain freezing unevenly. More salting and sanding will help, possibly of leaving a bucket of sand/salt out for pedestrians to spread on problem area.

  1. Concerns over the large rock boulders on campus when covered with snow become a dangerous hazard. Committee suggests drivers be alert and stay on roadways and not areas where the rock boulders are located.

Tabled

  1. Marcus S. and Pat G. met with Becky Allen from SLC Public Health to discuss becoming a POD location again. They will work on an MOU and keep the committee advised – Attempting to get a meeting set up with Brandi Lamay the new SLC Public Health Liaison to familiarize her with the MOU.
