Edward J. Forbes ’02 has dedicated immense energy and passion to the betterment of his alma mater. A double major in Canadian Studies-History and English, Ed began his service to the University as president of his class and of the Kalon-Kixioc Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa. He was also editor of The Hill News. This would set him on a dynamic career path as an accomplished journalist that has included stops at the Adirondack Daily Enterprise in Saranac Lake, the Lake Placid News, the New York Post and later, lohud.com and The Journal News in White Plains.

Ed holds a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University. He currently serves as Senior Director for News and Engagement for the USA TODAY NETWORK Northeast, which includes responsibilities as senior editor of the Morristown, N.J. Daily Record, and as managing editor of NorthJersey.com and The Record of Bergen County, N.J. and The Journal News.

Despite Ed’s demanding work schedule, he has always kept St. Lawrence and the North Country at the heart of his commitments.  He has served tirelessly in numerous volunteer roles across Admissions, Advancement and Career Services, leading to his election to the Alumni Executive Council in 2005. He served until 2018, when he retired after four years as president and alumni delegate to the Board of Trustees.

Under Ed’s leadership, the Council completed its expansion from 32 to 50 members and funded the Alumni Executive Council Endowment for Internships and Experiential Learning, closing with over $325,000 in gifts and pledges. He helped facilitate the Centennial Anniversary of the Council at Reunion 2015 and St. Lawrence’s climb to its rank as the No. 3 alumni network in the United States, according to the Princeton Review.

Ed is a trustee of the Frederic Remington Art Museum and has chaired Wings, the young members’ advisory council for the Wild Center. He is a graduate of Leadership Westchester and is a recipient of the Business Council of Westchester’s 40 Under 40 Award.

Ed and his wife, Emily Hunt Forbes ’04, are steadfast supporters of the St. Lawrence Fund, the University Fellowship program, and were inaugural donors to the Alumni Executive Council Endowment for Internships and Experiential Learning.
