Recognizing Role Models: the NNYLN Student Recognition Award Program

Mitch Galli

The Owen D. Young library is proud to announce that Mitchell G. Galli '12 is this year's winner of the 2009 Northern New York Library Network (NNYLN) Student Recognition Award.

Each spring, the NNYLN offers its member libraries an opportunity to recognize an exemplary student worker. Student workers are a vital component of day to day library operations, and choosing just one student to recognize from the many excellent candidates is often a difficult decision.

To be eligible for this award, students should have excellent attendance records, practice outstanding patron service skills and colleague interactions, and demonstrate interest and initiative in their respective positions. Students should also be responsible and strong peer leaders, as one of the main goals of the NNYLN award program is to "have the student return to library employment (in following years) as a recognized role model."

This year, Owen D. Young Library is proud to recognize Mitchell G. Galli ‘12, a rising first-year and Student Research Assistant (SRA) at the ODY Help Desk. Mitch joined the Help Desk team fall 2008, and has brought with him a sense of infectious enthusiasm and as an SRA, Mitch has had ample opportunity to develop his peer-mentoring skills during his more sixty plus interactions this academic year.

A double chemistry and music major from Williamstown, Mass, Mitch also keeps busy as a member of the Laurentian singers and the classic campus favorite, the Singing Saints. Mitch is considering futures in either the medical or musical fields, but is currently looking forward to another year at the Help Desk. His favorite part of working at the Help Desk? "The sense of accomplishment and success when I am able to help a student find good sources!"
Please join me in extending hearty congratulations to this exceptional young man.
