Reading Buddies | St. Lawrence University Volunteer Services

Reading Buddies

Mission: Pair up St. Lawrence University student volunteers with children who are struggling with literacy skills. The students in Reading Buddies have been referred to the program by school counselors and/or teachers based on reading level and the belief that they would benefit both academically and emotionally from having a SLU reading buddy.

Where: Hermon DeKalb Elementary School

Time Requirement: Once or twice a week for 90 minutes

In addition to helping with literacy skills and confidence, SLU students will work with a buddy in order to provide them with a consistent adult role model. The goal is to instill these children with good reading habits and the idea that reading can be fun and interesting.
