The Geology Department is thrilled to announce a generous gift from Doug ’75 and Kathy ’76 O’Brien to fund the renovation of the Geology Majors Room. With their gift, the O’Briens have chosen to honor a faculty member who is cherished by them and many other alumni – the space will be named the J. Mark Erickson Geology Majors Room in recognition of its namesake’s longstanding commitment to the Geology department and the students whose education he has fostered throughout his career.

This gift will enable us to create a state-of-the-art facility that will serve as a hub for geology students to collaborate, conduct research, and connect with alumni. The renovated space will provide students with modern equipment and comfortable study spaces, fostering an environment that encourages innovation, exploration, and academic excellence.

We will be regularly posting images of the progress of the work.
