Panelist Biographies
Kevin J. Arquit '75
A partner in the New York office of the law firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, Kevin Arquit focuses on antitrust litigation, transactional and counseling issues. Prior to joining private practice, he was general counsel of the Federal Trade Commission, and then director of its Bureau of Competition. He represents a wide variety of companies in high-profile antitrust litigation as well as before the Federal Trade Commission, the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice and numerous state and foreign competition authorities; he is frequently cited as one of the world’s top antitrust attorneys. Kevin is chairman of the Board of GenerationOn, a non-profit organization dedicated to service learning among children; chairman of the Board of the Adirondack Museum; vice-chair of the Board of the Adirondack Council, an environmental organization; and a member of the Boards of the Points of Light Institute and the Board of the U.S. Ski & Snow Association (U.S. Ski Team).
Pam Musk '85
Pam Musk is director of Centers and Education for Audubon New York. She supervises Audubon’s six nature centers and two statewide outreach programs, supervises 20 staff from Niagara Falls to Long Island, oversees educational programs across the state, manages budgets, is extensively involved in fundraising, and promotes the National Audubon’s programs and initiatives across New York. Her background includes seven years as a sanctuary director with the Massachusetts Audubon Society. She has extensive experience as an educator at a variety of nature centers and as a high school biology teacher, both in the United States and through the Peace Corps in Kenya. She is involved with environmental education organizations and has served on the Board of Watkinson School in Hartford, CT, the Project Learning Tree Steering Committee, and the Steering Committee of the No Child Left Inside initiative in New York.
Charles R. Daugherty '75
Prior to founding Stanwich Advisors in 2003, Charles Daugherty, also a managing partner with the firm, spent 26 years at Deutsche Bank/BT Alex. Brown, where he founded the Private Fund Group in 1996 and served as managing director and Global Group Head. Under his leadership, the Private Fund Group grew to 27 professionals and raised in excess of $13 billion for more than 30 private equity funds across a wide range of investment strategies. Prior to founding the Private Fund Group, he was a managing director in Bankers Trust’s High Yield Group, a vice president in the Investment Banking Group, and a vice president in the Corporate Banking Group in Tokyo. He received his MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. A dedicated alumnus, as a student he played lacrosse, studied in London and Kenya, and sang with the Saints. He and Karen Sivy Daughtery ’75 are the parents of Charles T. Daugherty ’12.
Cynthia A. Arcate '77
President and CEO of PowerOptions and a respected energy expert with more than 25 years of experience in government and the private sector, Cynthia Arcate has an extensive background in utility regulation and operations as well as energy policy. She began her leadership at PowerOptions, the premiere energy-buying consortium of non-profits and government entities in Massachusetts, in 2009. She articulates the strategic vision of PowerOptions and manages a highly-skilled staff that implements annual $160- 200 million electricity and natural gas programs. A vice-chair of the New England Power Pool (NEPOOL) representing the End-Use sector in 2011, she has been a staff attorney at the Federal Energy and Regulatory Commission (FERC), spent 15 years with National Grid, and was deputy commissioner for programs at the Massachusetts Division of Energy Resources, where among her responsibilities was administration of the renewable energy portfolio. She holds a law degree from New York Law School.
Jennifer Carroll Archie '83
Jennifer Archie is a partner in the Litigation Department of the Washington office of global law firm Latham & Watkins LLP, which has more than 2,000 attorneys and offices in 14 countries. Over her 24-year career at the firm, her practice has focused significantly on data privacy and security matters, including investigating major cyber-security and hacking incidents, and defending government investigations and lawsuits surrounding the collection, use and sharing of information from consumers and their devices. She also directs women’s initiatives for the Washington office, focusing on developing innovative programming to promote the advancement and retention of women in the legal profession.
At St. Lawrence, Jennifer majored in government, studied in Vienna and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. From 1983 to 1986, she served as legislative assistant and subsequently press secretary to Congressman Christopher H. Smith (R-NJ). She graduated from Cornell Law School, where she was managing editor of the Cornell Law Review, in 1989.
Stacey L. Silvers '88, M.D
Dr. Silvers is board-certified in otolaryngology and her specialty training includes facial plastic surgery and minimally invasive sinus surgery. She is the owner of Madison ENT and Facial Plastic Surgery in New York City. She is regularly named among America's top physicians and surgeons, and she was recently named one of New York magazine’s top doctors. An adjunct professor of otolaryngology at Touro College and the associate medical director of otolaryngology at Gramercy Surgery Center, she is conducting an FDA clinical trial for a new treatment for laryngeal symptoms of acid reflux, and continues to publish articles and deliver many presentations across the country. For the last four years she has traveled across the country training on the “in office” balloon sinuplasty technique. She is frequently featured on the news and was recently seen on the “Dr. Oz” show. She received her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 1993.
Hank Anderson III '07
Harold “Hank” Anderson is manager of regional sales for Bloomberg L.P. He grew up in Duxbury, Mass., and graduated from St. Lawrence with a major in biology and a minor in math. He was a member of the football team, captaining the Saints in 2006. He was also a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and was a founder of MAASV (Male Athletes Against Sexual Violence), which continues on campus today. After graduating, he had a brief stint with New York Life prior to moving to New York City to work for Bloomberg L.P., where he has been for six years. He manages the firm’s regional sales team in the Mid-Atlantic states of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia, as well as the District of Columbia. He lives in Astoria, Queens, with his wife, Mary (Wood) ’08.
David DeFazio '92
David DeFazio is the managing partner of the DeFazio Law Office, a general practice firm of four attorneys which specializes in construction litigation. He is also the C.O.O. of Wyoming Whiskey, a craft distillery located in central Wyoming that makes bourbon with only locally raised grains, which he co-founded with Kate LaMere Mead ’80, and her husband, Brad. As a Laurentian, he was an English major, a columnist for The Hill News, a member of the soccer team, belonged to the Sigma Chi fraternity, and was class president his senior year. He lives in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and sits on the Board of Directors of the Bridger Teton Avalanche Center. He attended Catholic University Law School where he was a member of the Judiciary Board and National Appellate Advocacy Team and graduated in 1996.
Brian Desrosier '80
As president of Lighthouse Technology Partners (LTP), Brian Desrosier engages in all aspects of business management (insurance, real estate, human resources, legal, advertising, marketing, planning and more) as the company provides advisory services for C-level executives and IT managers to help modernize their use of technology, improve business operations, and reduce cost and inefficiencies. Additionally, LTP helps customers redesign and manage workflow through Microsoft SharePoint solutions. The company’s legacy practice revolves around on-premise infrastructure, security and Microsoft technologies. Customers typically range in size from 50 to 10,000 employees. In March 2013, the firm was invited to participate in the Microsoft Cloud "Go To Partner" Deployment Program, for which fewer than 100 Microsoft Partners in North America have met the qualifications. LTP was recently named 2013 Microsoft East Region Partner of Year. At St. Lawrence, Brian majored in English and sport and leisure studies, played soccer and was a Dean’s List student.
