Panelist Biographies

Jackie Roy Hallock '04

Vice President and Director of Marketing, Champlain National Bank

Jackie is the vice president and director of marketing at Champlain National Bank in Willsboro, N.Y., where she handles all aspects of the bank’s marketing, advertising and public relations. Before her banking career, she worked as a television news producer for the NBC affiliate in Burlington, Vt. Jackie was an English-writing and speech & theatre double major at St. Lawrence, and went on to earn an M.Sc. in Media and Communications from the London School of Economics and Political Science. While at St. Lawrence she was editor of The Hill News, director of the Singing Sinners and a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, studied abroad in London, and was a management assistant in the Admissions Office. She and her husband, Thom Hallock, live in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Mark Klion '84

Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Mark Klion is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with specialty training in sports medicine. He graduated from St. Lawrence with a B.S. in biology, obtained his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Mount Sinai Hospital. Mark also completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Chicago. Dr. Klion is a clinical instructor at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and a partner at Manhattan Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Group. He is also the director of orthopedics at St. Barnabas Hospital in Bronx, N.Y. Dr. Klion performs the newest techniques for knee, shoulder and hip arthroscopy and reconstructions. A triathlete, he is medical director for the New York City Triathlon. He has recently written a book, Triathlon Anatomy, published by Human Kinetics 2102.

Carol Maxwell '79

CEO, MICROrganic Technologies

Carol Maxwell is CEO at MICROrganic Technologies, an early-stage company producing Microbial Fuel Cells, a new, sustainable technology for treating wastewater. Her career spans 30 years in sales and marketing in several industries, including telecom, banking and pharmaceuticals. For the last five years, Carol has mentored many young inventors at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and at local Incubators. She is on the Advisory Board of the Tech Valley Center of Gravity, an innovative Maker Space in Troy, N.Y. She is also board president of the Saratoga Film Forum, a non-profit arts organization that screens foreign, documentary and independent feature films that are not typically available in for-profit multiplex theaters.

Carol graduated cum laude with a B.S. in biology. She has an MBA and a master’s degree in teaching from Union Graduate College.

Gretchen Scott '72

Owner, Gretchen Scott Designs

Gretchen Scott majored in sociology at St. Lawrence, and is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Both of her parents hold degrees from St. Lawrence. Prior to starting Gretchen Scott Designs, she worked at Conde Nast Publishing and had several other careers, ranging from redoing houses to running a market research department at Smithsonian Magazine. She launched her business in 2001; today she sells to stores throughout the world and operates Gretchen Scott Signature stores in Massachusetts, New York State and Florida. A native of Watertown, N.Y., and a world traveler, she lives with her husband in Bronxville, N.Y.
