With profound sadness I share the news that Garrett Dunsmoor’18 has died while visiting Europe with his sister. His mother Judy Queale-Dunsmoor’85 wrote “It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our sweet and beloved Garrett. He had been having the time of his life traveling through Europe with MacKenzie when he had a tragic, accidental fall. Please know that he did not suffer and although he left us far too soon, he lived his 22 years full of happiness, adventures, wonderful friendships and love. Thank you so much for your outpouring of love and support. It means more to us than you will ever know. We will share details of his life celebration soon.”
Garrett received his degree cum laude in the double major of Performance and Communication Arts and Business in the Liberal Arts at Commencement in May. The Oswego native was a four-year member of the men’s lacrosse team, playing defense for the Saints. Coach Mike Mahoney told me “Garrett had a smile that could literally light up a room. He was bright, hardworking, humble and so very personable. The consummate teammate, many times he would ask what he could do in any role to help the team find success. The Dunsmoors (John’86 and Judy Queale-Dunsmoor’85) are a Laurentian family through and through and Garrett took so much pride in representing St. Lawrence on and off the field.”
On campus, our hearts too are heavy for this loss. We are not together to mourn, yet our connections, from members of the Class of 2018 to faculty, coaches, and staff who knew and admired Garrett, will sustain us until we can honor Garrett’s memory. We have created a Memorial Web site for your reflections on his life. We will write again when we have information about services.
