In Memory: Betty Vebber

To: The University Community

From: President William Fox

January 24, 2017

I wish to inform the Laurentian community that Betty Vebber died at her home in Pierrepont on January 20. She served St. Lawrence with great devotion for 22 years in the Business Office.

When Betty retired from the University in 1990, she was head cashier, assisting employees and students alike in cashing checks, making account deposits, and otherwise managing their personal as well as professional financial transactions. Betty joined the University staff in 1968 after several years at Peggs-Molnar Insurance Agency; after retirement, she worked part-time at Tax & Bookkeeping Services in Hannawa Falls.

Anne Chism, who worked in the office of the Vice President for Finance, remembers Betty as always cheerful and with a gift of remembering people’s names.  Anne and others recall Betty’s skill with fiber arts, as an award-winning quilter and leader of quilting guilds in the North Country.  We send condolences to Betty’s nieces and nephews, as well as to the retired and current staff who remember Betty with great affection.

Services for Betty Vebber will be at 1 pm, Wednesday, January 25, at Garner Funeral Home, in Potsdam.  Friends may call at the funeral home between 12 noon and 1 pm. At Betty’s request, contributions in her name may be made to the charity of your choice.  We have a Memorial Web site for your reflections and tributes
