“Time's Up: Communication & Synchronization Politics” (2017-18 PCA Lecture)
Dr. Nicole Allen will be giving her lecture entitled, “Time's Up: Communication & Synchronization Politics.”
From the Time’s Up Movement to proclamations of temporal return to a greater America, our contemporary environment is saturated with references to time and the timely as political dimensions. This lecture reviews the time(ly) dimensions of these movements through the lens of synchronization politics. Synchronization politics explores the power of collective movements through coordinated and simultaneous action. The danger and promise synchronization are further considered: When should we seek synchronization? When should we resist synchronization? How do we cope with the magnetic pull of synchronization existing outside of individual control
Nicole Allen, Ph.D. is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Performance and Communication Arts Department at St. Lawrence University. Her research focuses on exploring the intimate ties between political movements and time. Dr. Allen will be joining Utah State University’s Department of Language, Philosophy and Communication Studies in Fall of 2018.
