Dr. Zenel Garcia joins St. Lawrence as a Visiting Assistant Professor of International Relations. Through a joint degree program, Dr. Garcia earned an M.A. in Asian Studies in 2014 and a Ph.D. in International Relations in 2018 at Florida International University, Miami, FL. His research interests focus on the intersection of international relations theory, security, and geopolitics. Specifically, how elite understandings of state security and geopolitical environment shape the discursive and empirical processes that lead to regional formation and transformation in the Indo-Pacific and Eurasia. Having taught a broad range of regional and core-discipline courses at Florida International University since 2014, Dr. Garcia will be teaching courses in international security, strategic studies, and East Asian politics.
