Tom Evelyn joined St. Lawrence University as vice president for communications in June 2011. With more than 21 years of experience in journalism and higher education communications, Tom leads the office of University Communications, which is responsible for supporting academics, admissions and advancement through print and digital publications, media and public relations, social media, and video and photography. He also oversees North Country Public Radio (WSLU-FM), which broadcasts throughout northern New York and the Adirondacks and into Vermont and Canada.
Previously, Tom served as the senior director of news and media relations at Bucknell University and as the interim assistant vice president and associate director of news and information at the University of Central Florida (UCF). Before that, he worked as a reporter and editor at several newspapers in Florida and Georgia, covering a variety of topics from government and politics to health and technology. Tom also served as a cryptologist in the U.S. Navy while stationed in Spain and aboard ships on mission in the Mediterranean Sea.
Tom has a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a philosophy minor from the University of Florida and a master’s degree in communication from UCF, where he also guest-lectured in journalism and public relations.
