Stacy Vassar

As the Laboratory Coordinator for Organic Chemistry, my role lies in the weekly preparation and instruction of four to five sections of CHEM221/222 laboratory each semester.  In addition, I coordinate lab instruction with other laboratory instructors and the student teaching assistants assigned to each laboratory section.  I am also a member of the SLU Health Careers Committee.

Born and raised in the North Country of New York, I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry/Biophysics (1995) and a Master’s degree in Natural Sciences (Organic Chemistry) (1997).  In addition to St. Lawrence University, I have been an adjunct member of the Department of Chemistry faculty at SUNY Plattsburgh for the past ten years.

Prior to St. Lawrence University, I spent nine years in QA/QC and Technical Services, working closely with the FDA for a global pharmaceutical manufacturing company (Pfizer).

I have two beautiful twin daughters, who you may see from time-to-time walking the halls of Johnson Hall of Science, I enjoy cooking, reading, hiking, and music.

My teaching philosophy can be best described as “tough love.” That is, I typically expect the same high quality work from my students that I would expect from my own children. That said feel free to stop by my office (JHS 323) whenever the door is open. If you have a question, ask it. If I know the answer, I will assist you, and if I don’t, I will find out, and we will learn together.
