Phil has been Director of the Outdoor Program since 1997. He has a B.S. in Geology from Union College, and M.S. in Geology from Western Washington University. He teaches courses in outdoor leadership, wilderness medicine , backcountry skiing and avalanche safety, and whitewater canoe and canoe tripping.
Phil is an instructor for Wilderness Medical Associates and a certified WFR and EMT. He has also completed the Ski Guide Course and Ski Mountaineering course with the AMGA. Phil has been leading canoe expeditions with the OP since 1997 to the James Bay and Hudson Bay regions of northern Canada.
