Phil Royce

Phil has been Director of the Outdoor Program since 1997. He has a B.S. in Geology from Union College, a M.S. in Geology from Western Washington University, and an A.A.S. of Nursing from SUNY Canton. He teaches courses in outdoor leadership, wilderness medicine , backcountry skiing and avalanche safety, and whitewater canoe and canoe tripping. 

Phil has completed the Ski Guide Course and Ski Mountaineering course with the AMGA. Phil also works part-time as an emergency room RN in local area hospitals.

Phil has been leading canoe expeditions with the OP since 1997 to the James Bay and Hudson Bay regions of northern Canada. Some of these expeditions have been covered on regional and national radio,  For SLU outdoor team, a decade-long journey north, On A Wild Ontario River, North To James Bay, A fading river, a wild wolf and Hydro-Electric Project To Reshape Wilderness.
