B.A. – St. Lawrence University
Current Professional/Research Interest:
I’m currently researching LED (light-emitting diode) lighting and it’s ability to take over for conventional lighting in theater. My predecessor started to upgrade St. Lawrence’s lighting inventory back in 2008 when he purchased thirty LED lighting units. The LED lights used less energy and gave lighting designers much more flexibility in regards to color choices, however, they lacked the color temperature and intensity that conventional lights provided. I’m currently looking into new LED lighting technology to see if we can completely move over to LED lights without sacrificing color temperature and intensity.
In June 2011, I produced several instructional videos on how to circuit, program, and operate ETC Selador and Chroma Q LED lights.
This past summer, I participated in an ETC Ion lighting console workshop at the New York Live Arts Performance Center in New York City. I worked alongside Broadway lighting designers, board operators, and fellow technical directors to learn more about advanced programming, creating effects, and magic sheets. I also learned about working with control networks and Eos family systems.
I enjoy attending live music events, helping out with local productions, kayaking, and ice-skating on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa. Also, although it’s a rare occasion, I enjoy going out for wings with my colleagues.
