A former football and lacrosse captain at St.Lawrence, Mike Mahoney took over the head coaching duties for men's lacrosse in the fall of 1997. Entering the 2010 season, Mahoney has posted a 132-52 (.717) record in the past 12 seasons, including 4 consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament.
Mahoney graduated from St. Lawrence in 1993, with a B.A. in Government and a minor in Sport and Leisure Studies. He then moved on to the University of Albany, where he served as a football assistant while earning his master's degree in Liberal Studies with concentration in Education. He also worked as a physical education teacher in the Waterford Central School District.
"The Sport Studies and Exercise Science minor provides a terrific foundation for those students who are interested in pursuing the field of athletics as a profession, or merely trying to take a more in depth look at the subject matter which they are introduced to. In either case, it allows them to gain some new perspectives which can be very beneficial for them now and for future use."
