Kumars Salehi profile

Kumars Salehi specializes in 18th-20th century German philosophy, media studies, and decolonial theory. Before joining St. Lawrence University, he studied film at New York University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and completed his PhD in German Literature and Culture at the University of California, Berkeley in 2022.

He previously served as Managing Researcher for the Multicultural Germany Project, an initiative of the UC Berkeley Department of German that aims to foster interdisciplinary research addressing the changing cultural identities and political fault lines of the German-speaking world in the era of global capitalism, mass migration, and nationalist reaction. He is currently working on The Dialectical Curmudgeon: Afterlives of Hegel in German Literature and Political Thought, a book that explores how the Hegelian Marxist tradition of critical theory can serve as a resource for antiracist, feminist, anti-imperialist, and labor struggles today.
