Mr. Kevin B. MacKenzie
I began my career at St. Lawrence University in December of 2003 after moving from Florida. When not at the university, I'm better known as MudRat -- a rock/ice climbing guide, hiker, photographer, and writer with works published in The Adirondack Journal of Environmental Studies, Adirondack Life, Adirondack Rock, Blue Lines 2, Adirondack Explorer, Adirondack Outdoors, Adirondac, Peeks, Wild Northeast and Adirondack Almanack. I published Panther Gorge in 2019. The book includes 170 color photographs and details the history of this area of the High Peaks back to the 1800's. It also contains 37 narrative accounts of personal exploration. The journey of hiking and climbing has taken me up hundreds of scrambling/rock/ice climbing routes set in the most remote High Peak regions—Adirondack mountaineering in all seasons. Other projects include pioneering new rock and ice climbing routes in the backcountry of the High Peaks and serving as a volunteer on the DEC high-angle rescue team. Additional information including a list of published works is on my website.
