Julie has worked for the Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) since 2004 overseeing all the day-to-day operations of the CCE and Community Based Learning logistics. Julie also coordinates fundraising events such as Shawna's Walk for Wishes and Kick it for a Cause. Previous to this position, she worked in the Outdoor Program office, the Fitness Center and the Center for Teaching and Learning.
She was born and raised in the North Country, graduating from Colton-Pierrepont Central School in Colton, NY in 1991. Julie continued her education and graduated from State University of New York at Canton in 1995 where she received an Associates Degree in Business Administration. After graduation, she relocated to Raleigh, NC where she worked as a "teaching parent" at Methodist Home for Children followed by Verizon as a Group Leader and Staff Trainer in the Fiber Security Department. In 2003, her family relocated back to the North Country where she began her career at St. Lawrence University. In 2015, Julie graduated from State University of New York at Canton with her B.A.A. in Management. In January of 2016, Julie started her own Social Media Management and Non-Profit Event Planning business, Optimal Impressions. She works with local small businesses and non-profit organizations to optimize their relationships with local consumers. Her philosophy is to create organic and authentic connections between the business and consumers which in turn creates a sustainable client base and brand loyalty.
In her free time, Julie enjoys spending time with her husband Chris, their two sons, Andrew and Brandon and her dogs Brodie and Gracie. Julie is also very active in her community where she co-founded Shawna's Wishes where she raises money to grant wishes to children in the North Country through Make-A-Wish. Julie is also a board member of the Kiwanis Club of Potsdam where she devotes her time to advising a leadership/service club at Potsdam Central Middle School. She is also the treasurer of the Potsdam Youth Basketball Association and volunteers for the Potsdam Humane Society.
Julie continues to enjoy her time at St. Lawrence University especially with the Community Based Learning students and her Community Mentor staff. The passion and dedication the students put into not only their school work but also giving back to the local community continues to inspire her.
