Recruitment area: Select independent schools in Connecticut, New York, and Berkshire School in Massachusetts; New York City boroughs
Favorite thing about SLU: The diversity of our student body! As an institution we teach there is not a single definition of what diversity means, but multiple meanings all of equal matter. This is represented in the students we enroll, whether they bring cultural, economic, geographic, sexual or religious diversity. I continue to learn so much from our students and every year I expand my understanding of those who do not mirror my own background.
Favorite spot in the North Country: The place I still call "home," our family farm in Carthage, New York. Even though I have not 'lived' there since college, it is the spot I choose to spend vacations and holidays. It's a reminder of the values and spirit of the North Country culture and is the place that started the journey St. Lawrence has since continued to take me on.
Favorite restaurant in the North Country: Sboro's Restaurant in Watertown, New York is my absolute favorite place to eat. I love to go with my sister because for years we have both ordered the same appetizer and dinner! Variety may be the spice of life, but I can't bring myself to have anything but my favorite entree, filet mignon with Jack Daniel's sauce.
Tip for incoming first-year students: Dare to step outside of what you have grown used to. College is a time to explore opportunities you may not have known existed. Use your college years to diversify your life and use that experience to help others diversify their own.
