Jeff Frank

Jeff Frank is a Professor of Education and the Director of the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Assessment. He is extremely grateful to work at St. Lawrence and welcomes student questions about the educational studies minor, ways their major field of study might intersect with education, careers in education or that build from the liberal study of education, and conversations about the continuing importance and value of the liberal arts. 

He was selected for the Owen D. Young Faculty Award by the senior class in 2023 and 2019. His 2019 lecture was "Character as Lived Defense of Liberal Education" and his 2023 lecture was "Getting Unstuck."

His first book Teaching in the Now was published in 2019 as was his second book Being a Presence for Students: Teaching as a Lived Defense of Liberal Education; a list of his publications can be found at Google Scholar.

Before coming to St. Lawrence, he was a teacher educator at Sweet Briar College in Virginia. He earned his Ph.D. in philosophy and education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and he taught high school English and coached three sports in New York's Hudson Valley. As an undergraduate, he studied philosophy and literature at Middlebury College.

He lives with his wife and four children steps away from the St. Lawrence campus, and enjoys taking full advantage of everything our community has to offer with his family.
