Gianmarco Savio

Dr. Gianmarco Savio is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology. Dr. Savio earned his Ph.D. in Sociology at Stony Brook University in 2016, where he also earned an M.A. (2012). His research, which examines how organizational structures and meanings inform collective action, has been published in Sociological Perspectives, Research in Social Movements, Conflicts and Change, and The Contemporary Justice Review. His dissertation, entitled ‘Lost My Job, Found an Occupation’: Space, Networks, and Organization in Occupy Wall Street, involved a 12-month ethnographic and qualitative study of the Occupy Wall Street movement in New York City and examined the role of space as an organizational resource. Alongside his research, he loves teaching and using active learning exercises in the classroom.
