Mr. Staples has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1975 first in Rhode Island and now in New York. He is also a GCMA (Global Chartered Master Accountant). After receiving his undergraduate degree from Clarkson College (University) he spent two years in the United States Marine Corp. He then attended graduate school, worked for Peat Marwick Mitchell (now KPMG Peat Marwick), taught for eight years at Clarkson College (University), was in private practice and later was partner in Dragon, Benware, Staples and Geiser. He is currently in private practice. He has been a member of the St. Lawrence County Development Agency for 30 years and has been Chairman for 15 years.
Mr. Staples was married to Joan Staples, now deceased, for 40 years. Their son Matthew is a Certified Financial Planner and their daughter Joan is a Certified Speech and Language Pathologist.
Mr. Staples has taught at St. Lawrence University since 2001 where he is a lecturer and the Pre-management and 4+1 MBA advisor. A favorite quote is "How do we make this work?" He enjoys his family, golf, and teaching.
