Alie graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.A. in Environmental Studies and is currently working toward her M.Ed. in School Counseling here at St. Lawrence University. Beyond her academics, her previous experience as an employee at the Lake Champlain Land Trust, in Champlain College’s Sustainability Office and for a GreenerU (an environmental consulting firm outside of Boston), have allowed her to work with people and organizations dedicated to creating sustainable communities. She strongly believes in the value and power of community-based learning and is excited to assist in providing opportunities for SLU students to have similar experiences through the Sustainability Semester and the Center for Civic Engagement.
In the spring semester, Alie's time is mostly dedicated to the Sustainability Semester program where she lives with students in a farm house 4 miles from campus. In this capactiy, Alie works with students to explore their sustainability values, develop an intentional community, connect with North Country residents and coordinate hands-on workshops. In the fall, she can be found in the Center for Civic Engagement overseeing Community-Based Learning placements at food & farm-related organizations and coordinating the Community Mentor program. In both roles, Alie especially enjoys forming connections with community partners and building close relationships with students.
Living in the North Country for almost three years, Alie has found a deep appreciation for local food & the farmers who grow it, NCPR, cross country skiing, dinner outings at Jake's, paddling in the adirondacks and getting to know the rich community that resides here.
