Purchasing
St. Lawrence's Purchasing Department uses the following sustainable procurement practices:
Sustainability Evaluation
Vendors who respond to requests for proposals (RFPs) are asked how they incorporate sustainability into their operations/products and how they will support SLU's sustainability goals.
Recycled Content
The standard copier/printer paper used on campus is 50% post-consumer recycled content. Campus toilet paper, paper towels, and napkins are 100% post-consumer recycled content.
Reduced Packaging
Many orders received by the warehouse are bulk orders and minimally packaged. Cardboard boxes are reused whenever practical.
Less Toxic Chemicals
The purchasing department evaluates the feasibility of less toxic product substitutions.
Small Business & MWBE Program
The University uses purchasing as mechanism to further economic and social development
Carbon Neutral Laundry Program
As part of the service contract, all carbon emissions associated with operating laundry washers and driers on campus are offset.
