Visitors to Campus
Our top priority remains the health and safety of our Laurentian and local communities as is always the case and certainly as this pandemic continues. In accordance with the CDC's recommendation, the University is reinstituting a mandatory face covering policy for all indoor non-residential campus spaces and for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status. This campus mask policy will be in place until conditions improve.
Visitors to campus need to monitor themselves for any COVID-19 symptoms prior to their arrival on campus. If any student or guest, regardless of vaccination status, is symptomatic prior to arrival, do not come to campus and plan to get tested as soon as possible. Visitors should be mindful of the conditions and travel restrictions at their personal locations. At this time, there are no travel restrictions in place for traveling to New York State.
Visitors on campus for individual meetings and small events under 250 people:
Visits to campus and inside campus buildings by prospective students and families, trustees, Alumni Council members, Parents Committee, parents of current students, community guests and audience members are allowed. Visitors are required to follow campus mask policies: face coverings are required for all indoor non-residential campus spaces for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status.
Community members must be vaccinated to participate in University activities such as University Chorus or fitness classes. Organizers of these programs may ask the vaccination status of participants.
Large events (250 and more) such as Matriculation, Laurentian Weekend, Inauguration, Commencement and Reunion (excluding athletic events): These events welcome parents, alumni, and friends to campus in large numbers. We are currently planning to welcome guests including students' families to campus for Laurentian Weekend September 24-26. We anticipate following similar safety protocols to what was required for our guests at the Class of 2020 Commencement celebration on August 1st: All guests will be required to show proof of vaccination, or a recent negative result on a PCR Covid-19 test taken no earlier than September 21, 2021. Face coverings are required for all indoor non-residential campus spaces for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status.
The University will plan for in-person events, using state and campus guidelines and common sense about safe interaction and effective functioning, after August 2, 2021. The specific safety plans for large events will be developed closer to each event by event organizers, consulting with the Campus Safety Monitoring Committee (CSMC); for each, a final Safety Plan should be submitted to the Campus Safety Monitoring Committee and the safety plan will include mask wearing by all and separate seating for unvaccinated.
Places and Events of Worship: Chaplain Shaun Whitehead will offer services in Gunnison Memorial Chapel at allowable capacity effective when she indicates readiness.
Fitness Center: The Fitness Center will reopen to community members after students return for the fall semester and on the schedule of the Director, based on staffing and routine annual cleaning and maintenance. All individuals, regardless of vaccination status, must wear masks.
Libraries: Community members will be welcomed to use the libraries starting June 28, and all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, must wear masks.
Brewer Bookstore: Bookstore is in compliance with New York State effective June 16, 2021.
Job Position Searches, Candidates, and New Employees:
Candidates may once again be invited to campus as finalists for open positions in accordance with University Human Resources policy and to follow campus mask policies: a face covering is required for all indoor non-residential campus spaces and for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status. This policy will be in place until conditions improve. New employees are not required to complete safety training before beginning work; new employees will receive pre-arrival instructions from Human Resources.
