University Writers Series Presents Mary Biddinger

The St. Lawrence University Writers Series continues, as it presents Mary Biddinger at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, in the Sykes Common Room.

A poet, editor, and professor who lives in Akron, Ohio, Biddinger is the author of the poetry collections Prairie Fever (Steel Toe Books, 2007), Saint Monica (Black Lawrence Press, 2011), O Holy Insurgency (Black Lawrence Press, 2013) and A Sunny Place with Adequate Water (Black Lawrence Press, forthcoming 2014). She is also co-editor of The Monkey and the Wrench: Essays into Contemporary Poetics (University of Akron Press, 2011). Her poems have recently appeared in Crazyhorse, Guernica, Gulf Coast, Pleiades and Sou’wester, among others. Biddinger has been the recipient of two Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Awards in Creative Writing for her poetry in 2007 and 2010.

Biddinger was born in Fremont, Calif., and grew up in Illinois and Michigan. She earned a bachelor’s in English and creative writing from the University of Michigan, a master’s in fine art from Bowling Green State University, and a doctorate in English from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is currently an associate professor of English at the University of Akron, where she teaches literature and creative writing courses and is the editor of the university’s “Akron Series in Poetry.”
