The Top-10 SLU News Stories of the Spring 2017

Commencement and retirements, the Laurentian alumni network and humanitarianism all help to round out the top-10 most popular news stories of the Spring 2017 semester at St. Lawrence University.

During Commencement on Sunday, May 21, students, faculty, staff and guests will hear remarks from honorary degree recipients Susan M. Collins ’75, U.S. Senator from Maine, Jane (Breckenridge) Eisner ’64, president of The Eisner Foundation, Richard Guarasci, former St. Lawrence professor and 18th President of Wagner College, and Caroline Mastin Welsh P’07, director emerita of the Adirondack Museum.

St. Lawrence continues to receive numerous accolades from various national publications specifically for being a “Best Value College,” according to both The Princeton Review and Kiplinger's. The Princeton Review also included the University in the second edition of its Colleges That Create Futures: 50 Schools That Launch Careers by Going Beyond the Classroom.

Laurentians are proud of their alumni network, which is demonstrated both in rankings and how they boast about it themselves. College Rank named St. Lawrence’s alumni network as one of the Top 25 in the nation, saying St. Lawrence “has a very enthusiastic alumni network, with graduates actively participating in programs with current students and young alums." Laurentians also seem eager to return to campus in June for Reunion Weekend 2017.

Followers of St. Lawrence News were excited to read and share that St. Lawrence was named a top-10 volunteer-producing college for the Peace Corps as well as news that three students were awarded Davis UWC Projects for Peace to carry out humanitarian efforts around the globe this summer.
