St. Lawrence to Host 98th Annual Candlelight Service
St. Lawrence University will hold its traditional Candlelight Service in Gunnison Memorial Chapel at 7 p.m. and again at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
Celebrating its 98th year, the service will feature the Laurentian Singers, University Chorus and a community children’s chorus from Canton Central Schools conducted by Sondra Goldsmith Proctor, St. Lawrence's musician-in-residence. The theme for this year’s service is “Immigrants: Loving All Life and All of Humanity.”
The 9 p.m. service will be streamed live and available to watch on St. Lawrence's website.
For 98 years, the Candlelight Service has been a cornerstone of the St. Lawrence experience and the holiday season in the North Country. The service offers a pause for reflection before final exams and marks the end of the fall semester and the approaching turn of the calendar year. The service also signals the beginning of winter and the promise of longer daylight.
The Candlelight Service is free and open to the public. Parking for chapel events is available in H-Lot, across from Griffiths Arts Center and next to Vilas Hall. There also will be a drop-off location and limited handicapped parking spaces in front of Richardson Hall and at the front of the chapel.
