Sociology Prof. Calls on Journalists to Help Fix Twitter
Stephen Barnard, assistant professor of sociology, wrote an opinion article for The Hill, in which he calls upon journalists to help fix Twitter and recommends some possible solutions to reward positive behaviors on the social media platform.
His article appears after prominent The New York Times White House correspondent Maggie Haberman published an article citing she was quitting Twitter.
Barnard argues, “Journalists should think twice before abandoning Twitter. The medium has far too important a role to play.”
Barnard is the author of Citizens at the Gates: Twitter, Networked Publics, and the Transformation of American Journalism (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018). His book and expertise was featured on Beme News, a YouTube news channel owned by CNN.
