Psychology Profs Discuss School Start Time in Potsdam
As the Potsdam Central School District considers later start times, the school district turned to two St. Lawrence University professors who have conducted research on school start times.
Pamela Thatcher, professor of psychology, and Serge Onyper, associate professor of psychology, delivered a presentation to the Potsdam school board on January 16. Thacher and Onyper discussed the results of a study they had conducted on the Glens Falls City Schools, which moved to a later start time in 2012. According to the Watertown Daily Times, they aim to to conduct a similar study on Potsdam, if the district decides to go with a later start time.
Thacher told the school board the school district should move the start time as late as possible to get the most benefit for the money and effort it will have to spend.
