Prof of Gov't Reflects on Fannie Lou Hamer in 'USA Today'

USA Today has published an opinion piece written by Alan Draper, professor of government, on the 50th anniversary of Fannie Lou Hamer's speech at the Democratic National Convention.

Hamer was a member of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party (MFDP), which challenged the seating of an all-white Democratic delegation from Mississippi.

In his piece, Draper argues that the struggle for democratic rights in Mississippi that Hamer described 50 years ago continues.
