August 2021: Sophomore Orientation
On Tuesday, August 24th, the Sophomore Class celebrated the beginning of the new academic year with the following series of activities:
10:30-11:30 AM: Convocation in the Chapel
12:00-2:00 PM: Lunch at the President's House
11:30 AM-3 PM: Lawn Games at Dean Hagi's House
3:00-5:00 PM: Volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee, and Board Game Competitions
7:00-7:30 PM: Candlelight Ceremony on the Quad
September 2021: Sophomore Council Activities
This month your Class of 2024 leaders will team up with the Sophomore Success Initiative to offer a number of programs continuing your welcome back to campus, providing further opportunities to connect with one another, and highlighting ways to make the most of your St. Lawrence experience. Stay tuned as we announce specific events that build off of the energy and activities we had at Sophomore Orientation.
October 2021 : CIIS & Advising Workshop
Become more informed about off-campus study and academic majors. The Associate Dean of International and Intercultural Studies and the Associate Dean of Advising will host an open session to answer questions about declaring a major, finding an advisor, applying for an internship or fellowship, and applying for off-campus study. This program serves as a timely, practical check-in point as sophomores approach major declaration and the deadline for off-campus study in February. Date and format for this program to be announced.
November 2021: Selection of Spring Courses and Sophomore Seminars
Students will be picking spring courses during the second week of November, starting on Monday, November 8th. Your advisors, mentors, and the Sophomore Success Initiative team look forward to helping you pick a great set of classes. As you're exploring, don't forget about the spring slate of sophomore seminars, designed for and open to 2nd-year students only, which will be announced in October.
November 2021: First Generation Initiative Celebration Week
This will be a week-long celebration taking place November 7-13. The First Generation Initiative team has planned events to help first-gen college students connect with one another and with faculty and staff who are first-gen graduates. This is the time to recognize and celebrate the achievements of first-gen college students! Brunch at Dana on Sunday, Nov. 7th and a gathering in Sykes Formal Lounge on Monday, November 8th will kick off the week of events.
December 2021: Fellowships and Internships
Become more informed about summer internships and fellowships: Do you have questions about SLU Summer Research Fellowships; Internships Fellowships; SLU Public Interest Corps (PIC); Tanner Fellowships; Saints Start Challenge Grants; and Davis Projects for Peace? Join Career Services and representatives from fellowship and internship programs to explain the programs and help you determine which opportunity is right for you. This workshop is an ideal way to jump start planning for your summer. Time and format to be announced later in the fall.

January 2022: Sophomore Boot Camp
Hear from alumni and parents across a variety of industry fields. Learn about about internship options and resources in those fields, career management skills, networking and professional communication, and what employers are looking for from candidates. Please contact Geoff Falen at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. Registration link will be provided later in the fall. This event is scheduled for January 15th-17th, 2022.
January 2022: Sophomore Tuesday
After Boot Camp join the Sophomore Success Initiative team for the spring semester edition of Sophomore Tuesday, which will take place during the day on January 18, 2022. You will receive one-on-one help with your off-campus study application and assistance in refining your academic goals, interests, and habits. There will also be programming on building and maintaining a positive personal digital identity. Look for registration information in December.
