Assoc. Chaplain to Lead Clergy Conference

St. Lawrence University’s Associate Chaplain the Rev. Dr. Shaun Whitehead will lead a United Church of Christ (UCC) Clergywomen Leadership Conference 2016 from April 18 to 20 in Carefree, Arizona.

Whitehead, an ordained minister in the UCC, will lead a workshop, titled “Rediscovering the Gospel in a Religiously Pluralistic Context.” The United Church of Christ’s national office invited Whitehead because her work at St. Lawrence is a specialized ministry.

As associate chaplain, she is the both the pastor and worship leader for St. Lawrence's Gospel Service, a weekly progressive Christian service created in 2002 by the Rev. Kathleen Buckley, university chaplain, Margaret Bass, associate professor emerita of English, and Barry Torres, director of music ensembles. Whitehead will share her experiences as pastor and worship leader of the weekly campus Gospel Service during the workshop.

Since her seminary days, Whitehead said she has always worked in unconventional ministry settings, such as The Night Ministry of Chicago, where she ministered to underserved populations on the nighttime streets of Chicago. Although Whitehead assumed that she would be a pastor in a church parish, St. Lawrence University beckoned in 2003, and she answered that call.
