Art History Professor Presented at European Conference

A St. Lawrence University art history professor presented her research at a European conference in July.

Chandreyi Basu, associate professor of art and art history and coordinator of St. Lawrence’s Asian studies program, presented her research on pastoral imagery in ancient north India at the 2014 conference of the European Association for South Asian Archaeology and Art, which was held at the Museum for Modern Art and the Museum for Far Eastern Antiquities in Stockholm, Sweden.

Archaeologists, art historians and historians from Europe, North America and South Asia spent five days discussing their current research. After the conference, Basu visited the historic cities of Sigtuna and Uppsala, where she explored several Viking burial sites as well as early Christian buildings.

Basu will introduce a unit on Scandinavian art in her Survey of Art I course for the fall 2014 semester at St. Lawrence University.
