The Physics of Sound and Music
We're delighted that Catherine Jahncke, Hayward Associate Professor of Physics, will be offering her course, The Physics of Sound and Music (PHYS 120 with lab) in spring 2020:
Music is an interaction between the production of sound and the listeners' perceptive abilities. In this course, the physical details of the production of “musical” sound will be investigated. In a hands-on, experiment-based course the physics of sound vibrations and waves, the construction of various types of musical instruments, the role of electricity and magnetism in recording and producing sound, and other topics will be explored.
