Professor Salvi presented a paper
This summer Professor Salvi presented a paper entitled “‘Could that be the secret of art? To remember … For to invent, perhaps, is to remember’”. Literature and Re-appearance of Lost Memory in Carmen Martín Gaite and Elsa Morante" at the Conference Women of/in the Mediterranean: Women and Memory, held at The Sant’Anna Institute in Sorrento, Italy, June 21-22, 2019.
In her presentation Professor Salvi explored the literary trajectory of Spanish novelist Carmen Martín Gaite (1925-2000) and the Italian author Elsa Morante (1912-1986), by particularly emphasizing a certain degree of deliberation in the construction of their respective authorial persona. Through a meta-referential discourse the two authors establish a connection between art and life, which allows for a reflection on the nature and role of literature in recuperating lost memory while defining their place in the official literary milieu of the time.
