The Professional Development Conference for language teachers hosted its conference on Friday March 22, 2019 at St. Lawrence University. Seventy teachers from St. Lawrence county, Jefferson county, and Franklin-Essex-Hamilton county attended the event.
The Keynote address “Building Connections” was given by Mrs. Francoise Piron. The underlying theme of this talk being the necessity for meaningful connections, Mrs. Piron illustrated the topic with examples of strategies and activities that provide rich learning experiences; she offered suggestions that align with ACTFL’s 3 modes of communication and that have proven successful in her classroom. To that end, the following acronym served as a focus point to justify and expand upon the many-faceted aspects of this theme: (CLICK)2

In the afternoon sessions, many topics were discussed. Examples include:
- Practical applications of technology to teaching languages and cultures;
- Designing a World Language lesson using Breakout EDU,

- Relationship building in the foreign language classroom, Strategies to improve proficiency and engagement,
- Dabbling in Comprehensive Input (CI),
- Arpilleras – Forging Memory in the Spanish Classroom
and more!
