Abby is an English major with potential minors in philosophy and communication. She is very passionate about learning in any respect, and she looks forward to helping other students hone their writing skills while also developing a greater appreciation for academic or creative writing. Outside of school, Abby enjoys watching movies, listening to music, reading, and writing.

Alex (he/him/his) is a philosophy major. He loves tutoring because it gives him a chance to discuss new ideas and help people express themselves. Alex loves to read about history, culture, politics, and food. In his free time, he’s usually trying to convince people to play pool or ping-pong with him at the student center.

Anni

Anni (she/her/hers) is a Creative Writing and Psychology double major, with an Outdoor
Studies minor. In addition to working at the WORD studio, Anni is the yoga coordinator for
SluFlowProject (affiliated with the Lighthouse). Along with a love of intentional living, Anni also
enjoys playing outside, skiing, running, singing, and dancing. Anni brings this energetic,
intentional mindset to her work at the word studio, as she places emphasis on interpersonal
connection and collaboration in her sessions. She looks forward to empowering her peers to
write boldly, with their individual styles and voices.

Colin (he/him/his) is a Creative Writing and Business in the Liberal Arts double major, with a minor in French. He believes in artistic expression, in which his passions include reading, writing, and singing, among others. Colin likes to travel and feels inspired by new people, places, and scenes. Along with the creative arts, Colin enjoys being outside and walking during all seasons. Most days, you can probably find him on the Saddlemire Trail. Colin looks forward to leading students toward their expression and helping them find their voice at the WORD Studio. He knows that interpersonal connection will be rewarding and hopes that students will gain confidence in their communication skills.

Freya (she/her/hers) is a government major with a minor in economics. While her major is centered around political science in general, Freya’s interests are focused on international relations, history, and political economy. In her free time, she enjoys reading, spending time with friends, and being a part of groups and organizations on campus. Freya loves to travel and visit new places and hopes to pursue a career in international government. She is excited to work in the WORD Studio to connect with and help her peers, whether that be through government-related assignments or with schoolwork in general, and to improve others’ skills as well as her own.

Hannah (she/her/hers) is a philosophy major with an education and gender and sexuality studies minor. In addition to working at the WORD Studio, she works as a Program Manager for SLU's Volunteer Services. Hannah takes a personalized and collaborative approach to tutoring and works to foster a positive learning environment! Hannah would describe her leadership style as inclusive, friendly, and supportive. Her top skills are organization, communication, and time management. In her free time, she likes to hike, paint, and dance!

Kelly (she/her/hers) is a biology major and education minor on the PA track. She’s a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and has two dogs, Cooper and Riley. Kelly is a huge book worm and loves to cook.

Madyson (she/her) is a History major with a PCA and Global Studies minor. She lives in the Habitat for Humanity theme house and is passionate about volunteering. Madyson spends her free time hanging out with friends, listening to music, reading a good book, and connecting with nature. She is grateful for this opportunity to work as a tutor and is looking forward to helping others become more confident writers and speakers while also improving her own skills!

May (class of 2024) is a behavioral neuroscience major on the premed track, with a minor in public health and potentially one in chemistry. She is an EMT for SLU EMS and the treasurer for the Hub theme house and club on campus. In her spare time, she wishes she could tell you that she reads all the time, but more often she ends up hanging out with her friends (which sometimes involves playing video or card games) or doing a craft. She also loves skiing, hiking, visiting waterfalls, and just generally being outside when she can. Her favorite part of being a tutor is helping students formulate and support their arguments.

Nicole (she/her/hers) is working on her major in Government and minors in Gender/Sexuality studies and English. She is most interested in using critical theories, particularly feminist frameworks, to analyze content in these areas. Nicole loves reading and writing and looks forward both to helping her peers and learning about a variety of subjects she wouldn't typically engage with.

Her interests also include writing, both academic and creative, and she is excited to work with her peers in the WORD Studio to support others in expressing their thoughts and ideas through their writing.

Sam is a Global Studies and Multi-Language double major from Burlington, Vermont. He is a member of the crew team here at St. Lawrence, and in his free time enjoys mountain biking, sailing, and Nordic skiing. He hopes to make tutoring a two-way street of learning, where he learns as much as he teaches.

Shantaa (she/her/hers) is a Psychology and History double major with a minor in African American Studies. Shantaa would like to use her background with effective tutoring principles at the word studio to assist her peers with their reading and writing skills in hopes of alleviating some of the stressors that come along with starting or writing a paper. She is very passionate about advocacy and creating a comfortable and inclusive space for all her peers and clients. In her spare time, she enjoys nature walks, watching anime, and trying out new makeup looks!

She is part of various campus organizations and positions, such as Admissions, Treasure of Omicron Delta Kappa Honors Society, and going on her third year as a Community Assistant. In her free time, she loves to read, write, be outside in nature, and indulge in anything creative. Shelby is excited to work as a tutor to connect with her peers while exploring and developing their skills, and learning from them as well.

Skarly (She/they) I am a Multilanguage Major with a Government Minor. Originally from San Francisco De Macoris, Dominican Republic but grew up in New York City. I am looking forward to helping tutees and learning from them everything as much as I can. I have always had an affinity towards language learning and communicating with people from all over the world. I am very passionate about dancing and traveling. You can often find me listening to music and making new friends. Also, my hair is always changing!

Sofi (she/her/hers) is a Global Studies and Government double major, with a possible minor in English. She is an international student from Venezuela, even though she has spent the past two years in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Sofi loves to hang out with her friends, enjoy sunny days sitting on the Adirondack chairs, and definitely a good chocolate ice cream. When it comes to tutoring, she would like to use her non-native speaker background and encourage her peers to find their own voices through their writing. She is looking forward to this experience as a great opportunity to connect with other people and learn from their writing styles.

She is a Community Assistant here at St. Lawrence and enjoys reading and writing in her free time, or watching a good TV show.
