Alex says that "I'd always been interested in listening to stories of the past from family, and I was particularly interested in genealogy prior to coming to SLU. After taking a public history course I decided that a History major would pair nicely with my Business in the Liberal Arts major, providing me with a well-rounded liberal arts education." She says that as a History major, "learning about the groups and populations throughout history that have been minimized in mainstream narratives really opened up my worldview and revealed just how many stories there are to tell when looking at 'history.' Every history course I took at SLU focused on questioning existing histories and working to understand how these histories came to be, which was fascinating to me." As a senior she studied in the Czech Republic. "My host mother is one of the most incredible people I've met," she says. "She made my experience in Prague 100x more rich. Radka lived through the Communist occupation of Czechoslovakia and every night at dinner, she shared more about her life and her experiences under communism. The history major in me loved it, but I also loved being able to connect with her on a human level." Her Senior Year Experience, an honors thesis project, was "a case study of a feminist consciousness-raising group in Canton during the 1970s, something I had worked with for all four years at SLU. I am so proud of the work I did with this project (and the wonderful people I met because of it) and I hope other SLU students will continue to study this fascinating group of women." This summer Alex will begin her job as an associate consultant for Beacon Hill Staffing Group in Boston.
