GS seniors inducted into Phi Beta Kappa

Congratulations to Julianne DeGuardi '17 and Rutendo Chabikwa '17 on their induction into Phi Beta Kappa on Friday, April 28th.

Julianne is from Ballston Spa, NY.  She is a Spanish and Global Studies double major and she studied in Spain last spring during my junior year.  She also took a two week summer course in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico in August 2015 (summer leading into her junior year).  Julianne's Global Studies SYE project is titled "Migrant Dairy Farm Workers in the North Country: A Microcosm of NAFTA's Human and Structural Repercussions."

Rutendo is from Harare, Zimbabwe.  She is a UWC Davis Scholar who went to UWC Person in Canada.  She studied off-campus on the Francophone Program and in Trinidad.  She conducted research for her Global Studies SYE in South Africa in the summer of 2016.  The title of her SYE project is "Reclaiming Dreams of the Forefathers: The Case of Student Protest Movements in South Africa."

In the words of Julianne, "Global Studies is a major that really enabled me to excel academically because due to the very broad and interdisciplinary nature of the major I was able to choose courses and research topics that I am interested in and passionate about, which naturally motivated me to become very invested in my coursework."
